Weight Loss Boost – Try A Clothes Swap!

Weight Loss BoostIt’s been a while since I posted last, hasn’t it? Life is just so busy busy busy – even without trying to lose weight! 🙂 I am actually playing with the idea to do a video soon so you will see me live for the first time… let me just get my courage up!

So, here I am, still trying to lose weight the healthy way, and I have not been going so well. I have just updated my weight loss ticker, I am starting over again. Current weight: 80.5kg, goal weight (adjusted from 62kg – yes, I actually do think I have been too dreamy there) 65kg. Last week I was a whopping 82.6 kg on Wednesday morning – whoa! So I actually have lost some weight – 2.1kg in one week. That’s fantastic, don’t you think? Are you wondering how I got that happening? I can tell you exactly how!

Last week on Tuesday night I went to a clothes swap evening at a friends place. Basically what  happens is that everybody brings in their clothes that they don’t wear any more, everything gets thrown on a heap and then everybody can choose and try on what they like and hopefully walk away with a few “new” clothes and a few “old” clothes less. Great concept!

To make a statement, I took most of my clothes that were from my skinnier days: pants, jumpers, t-shirts, etc. It hurt to get rid of them, because I remembered how great I looked in all of them. But then again, I thought, should I actually some day manage to lose the weight, I can also go out and buy a whole new wardrobe that will actually be modern! 🙂

Well, what I did not really think about that evening was that I really am the only one a bit more on the “bigger” side. All my friends are a size 14 or less. I am the only one size 16. So you can guess – all the others had a great time trying on each others (and mine) clothes, pants etc, and I was sitting there not even daring to take off my clothes, I felt so embarrassed. It also was very painful to see my beautiful pants that I treasured so much on other women and looking so good. And realizing that I can’t even get them over my hips any more. So I ended up with (no pants) a few baggy tops, and on top of that I was the one stuffing herself with food feeling defeated, while the others tried on “new” clothes and had a great time.

Result: I weighed in at a whopping 82.6kg the next morning! Mornings, when you really should be at your lowest weight! That was an absolute shocker. And that was my biggest motivation boost yet. I decided there and then that this had to stop. I KNOW I can do it! Damn, I know how good it feels to be thinner, and I CAN DO IT! That’s what I thought. And I went straight back to the diet that has in the past given me the quickest results the easiest way. BodyTrim

Fast Weight LossYes, I am back to BodyTrim. It is by far the best weight loss strategy for me – it concentrates on mainly eating protein, and it gives you a big boost from the start as it lets you lose weight fairly quickly. And as a bonus, you can eat every 2 to 3 hours. When I am on BodyTrim, I am just not hungry at all. And where I went bust the last couple of times (yes I did, otherwise I would be my old svelte self already again, wouldn’t I?), I seem to have it under control now – I just have to think about the clothes swap and I am not getting weak any more! 🙂

I had a total of 2 days off the diet (invited to a Tupperware Party at a friends place who loves to put up great and good amounts of food; invited to a birthday bash on Friday night with heaps of great food) and still managed to lose 2.1kg. I am very proud of myself, and I will keep going!

  2. I haven’t been through a clothes swap, but I totally empathize with you. I have put on weight over the last two years and I didn’t really realize the extent of it until I tried on some clothes I often wear last year. I was completely floored when the zips of my dress burst. It didn’t just happen to me once, but three times on three different dresses! That motivated me to cut down on sweet drinks and start a running regime!

    It’s great that you have lost weight and do keep up the good job. Would love to see you one day posting pics of you in your glorious new wardrobe!

  5. Congratulations on getting back on your diet and losing more weight. I’m sure you will reach your goal weight this time, especially with your motivation being rejuvenated. I myself just recently reached my goal weight and am on the road to maintaining that weight.

    I am going to take your lead and look into getting a few pieces of clothing that would still be a tad small and maybe shoot for losing a few more pounds now.

  9. That’s right, as most nutrition experts would tell you, you can’t afford to starve yourself at any point when dieting. Because that might lead to binge eating later on.

Finally, I felt the weight of all those pounds and recently went on a diet consisting mainly of veggies and diet drinks. In the last month I’ve lost some 20 lbs and not only feel better physically, but my mental attitude has also improved. As a bonus, I’m able to fit back into some of my old clothes—didn’t toss all of them. The diet has not been easy, when I go to the store my mouth waters as I past by all the old goodies I use to toss in my shopping basket. Oh well, my goal is to reach the 180 again and I will make it.

  15. Nice. I’m trying to lose weight as well and I just started to go on a diet this past Monday. My starting weight is 70kg and today is my fourth day of trying to lose weight and now I only weigh 67kg! Hehehe I lost 3kg in 4 days. I’m currently browsing through your blog to get some tips if you don’t mind because I know I’m just starting on this weight loss journey and I’m only on my 4th day but maaaaaan I have to admit I’m really craving for many bags of CHEETOS right now ughhhhh this is hard!

    Just keep in mind that there is no need to fill in your stomach with so much food, focus that you don’t have to be full every meal. One technique I did was to buy an expensive pants which is a bit tight for me, so I can diet and wear it on after.

    Have you ever tried ‘juicing’? I’m not talking about the juice fast, or anything extreme. However, my father substitutes one meal a day with a juice mix (apples, carrots, etc) and said it really helped keep the weight off and helped him feel great. So, I started doing it too – I buy organic fruits/veggies to make the juice each day and substitute just one meal. That, combined with some exercise has kept me about 10-15 pounds under my ‘normal’ weight for a couple of months now. Maybe not for everyone but thought I’d mention it….best of luck moving forward with your journey!

  24. It’s not reasonable to weigh yourself everyday. It’s a recipe for disaster. just continue to exercise and eat healthy. Check how your clothes fit and see any improvements.

  25. That is a true fact we stop controlling our body weight there are several ways we can manage tolose 5 pounds weekly. If you do atleast a 5 min walk everyday after dinner . Either outside or inside the room . Do small jogging in the Morning ? Controlling the diets like fatty meals or meals can create Colestrol.

    I love juice and it can be fun trying different combinations of fruit and veg.
    Petra if you buy a juicer be sure to get a really good one, I have been through many and some were as useless as t*ts on a bull.

    Great article, I have been doing this fitness from home (I best not mention it as people will think im trying to promote it) if you want to do a search online your more than happy. “Insanity,” Losing weight is never easy we all know, but what has got me through it is my weekly weigh in with my mates.

    We all have bets to lose fat (3st) by Dec, Im in my 5th week. I had some real lows but what got me through it is to carry a picture of what i want to look like and goals around with me all the time.

  48. A Clothes swap sounds like a great Idea, I have black bags of clothes that are too small in the loft that i can’t bear to get rid off. Perhaps if i swapped them with some elses treasured clothes it won’t feel so bad.

I think it is important that your diet is not making you suffer, so if you are used to snacks, don’t leave them out, just make them healthier. I threw in a delicacy weekend each month, when I, for example, ordered beluga caviar from http://www.1caviar.com which is not full of calories, but it IS rich in nutrients and essential fatty acids and minerals, so it is good for you, and you won’t feel you can’t eat anything because you’re on a diet.     Something similar happened to me. I suggested a clothes swap from work and brought my “skinnier” clothes that don’t fit anymore. I was devastated when I saw my friends looking great while I was stuck with a few loose things. Honestly I felt cheated. You didn’t mention this but how was the quality of the clothes? I only brought things that were in great condition. Others brought less than nice garments while another one didn’t bring anything at all.

      The quality of the clothes was still very good, in general. I think a clothes swap is not to get rid of your really old and ratty things, but to “trade in” the clothes that are still good but you just don’t like them any more, or – like us – you simply can’t wear any more.

My best friend and I have been racing to see who can lose the most using the 17 day diet, and so far I have seen some great progress.     I’ve read your previous post (the 11 tips for healthy weight loss) and noticed you did not include exercise in it. Not to impose, but I think that’s what’s missing in your tips.

    Also, I’d like to share a tip that I’ve practiced for months already and it’s really effective. It’s called the 6-o’clock diet. What you’re going to do is if it’s already past 6 PM, you won’t have to eat dinner.

    Good luck on your weight loss plans, as well. Try every option there is and you might just find the right one for you.

  61. Eating more protein and less carbs will help with the weight loss but you have to be careful not to consume too much protein since it is hard on the kidneys. Try an keep it balanced and exercise when you can.

  64. You can do it if you set your mind to it. My fiance’ and I do the Atkins diet because it really works well. Just remember you need to take in less calories than you’re burning in a day and you will lose weight.

    Hi, i just want to share my experience to you. I was 85 kilos before but here i am now im just around 57kgs. What i did is a diet, a diet that i have learned from my sister. She called it “after 6 diet”. It means that after 6 o’clock in the evening you shouldn’t eat anything anymore after you eat your main dinner. It is very effective and there is nothing wrong with trying isn’t it?

      I’ve actually heard about that too, just find it extremely hard to stick to. I am sure it works very well. But also, other healthy eating plans suggest you should eat every few hours, even until you go to bed, to keep your metabolism up and firing.

  71. Good that you attended the clothes swap event. You can call that as your wakeup call as most of the work is now done by that event. You should be happy for such a surprising and a great kick start. Good to hear that you have lost good amount of weight in one week. We expect you to loose further and come back to 62. I am sure you will do it.

But now a day’s clothes have become so expensive that buying them is like emptying your pocket at the start of the month itself.     Doesn’t it seem like every time we are trying to lose weight there are always a lot of parties to attend? LOL… keep it up girl! It’s doesn’t matter how many times we fall but how many times we get up.

    I find what works for me is to look at the long term goal and not the immediate goal. I recently attended my brothers wedding and I started losing 6 months before. In that time I cheated a lot but it didn’t matter because the days I was good was waaaay more than those days that I wasn’t. I lot 50 pounds total just going from one day at a time focusing on getting better everyday.

  80. I think everybody is so energized after reading your blog. Clothes swap is a very good option. But I wish you would have kept all your old clothes for some more time. It would have been fun then, because it’s only then that you would have tried to loose weight. The old clothes would have tried motivating you and then you would have probably lost weight much faster with the intention of wearing those clothes.

      Bianca, I have had most of my old clothes for 15 – 20 years, and they haven’t motivated me to lose weight, otherwise I would be thinner, right? So there was no point in holding on to them. I much rather will go out in the future to buy some new fashionable clothes!

  81. What kind of an event is this? Is this something related to an auction where you generally sell off all your old clothes? Or is it only for giving away clothes for free to others who ever like them and in return taking some clothes which you like? Clothes Swap to my knowledge means only exchanging clothes with each other.

  83. Yes it’s now that I am quite motivated In terms of losing weight. Being on a strict diet makes you feel that you are been deprived of food and the food stuffs that you like the most. But this helps you to feel lighter as days pass by. It does not let you increase your weight even if you are not able to exercise regularly. Dieting would then be called as being on a maintenance diet.

Either outside or inside the room . Do small jogging in the Morning ? Controlling the diets like fatty meals or meals can create Colestrol.
