Weight Loss Successes and Failures

I absolutely cannot believe that just about half a year has passed and I have not made another post. Isn’t that just inexcusable??? I know I attempted to post a few times, but always couldn’t finish off (I am not so great at writing) and felt at a loss.

I admit that I fell into some kind of hole there for a little while. I got so carried away with all the day to day things, there was never really enough time to do all the stuff for our businesses, studying, the house, the kids, the dogs and anything else, so every night when it came to update my sites, I was just too stuffed to do anything at all. I sort of lost my interest there for a while, just trying to keep my life in some kind of control.

BodyTrimHow have I been going with my weight loss, you might ask? Well, I started (before Christmas) on Bodytrim, and I went from 82 kg down to 78.5 kgs within the space of 2 -3 weeks. My regular readers might have noticed the weight loss ticker going down at that time.I actually had a competition going with a friend of mine who was (is) doing Weight Watchers. We wanted to see which program was the better one. (What a good thing to get me started!).

Bodytrim is fantastic, I firmly believe in it. It’s a very healthy life style and eating habit change, and what Geoff Jowett says on the CD’s you get with the program is just all making sense. It clearly works! I did beat my friend in the first few weeks.

My letdown was – again, as always – that my emotions got the better of me and I did not continue with the program as I should have. I started eating all the bad foods again, to the wrong times. Bugger! Result – weight pretty much back on, Petra very unhappy! My friend just kept going with her Weight Watchers and lost another 2 kgs, while I went back up.

As you can clearly see, the major factor that should be dealt with if diets “don’t work” is your psychological state, and your emotions. Without having them sorted out, you very likely will fail over and over again on “diets” that you try. I really do firmly believe in Bodytrim, it is a great product and is all about changing your eating to a healthier and more regular pattern, so you can keep your metabolism up and firing. But even the best program won’t do it if the mind is not ready.

On a higher note, I have just this morning started to go back to the gym (after about 6 months of burnout – I mean I had been doing this since I was 19!! – am 42 now 😉 ), and by simply trying to structure my day more I am hoping to get my eating back under control. I am trying to stick to the teachings in Bodytrim as much as I can. So we will see what happens!

So long, hopefully sooner than in 6 months again…

  3. A pity you stopped – 3.5 kg in 3 weeks is quite good, if you did it in 2 weeks it was a bit fast. Anyway you gave up on it. I suppose you have to decide what you really want. It seems like, at present, you do not want to lose weight badly enough.

      Like yourself , I am trying several different approaches to losing weight. I only have about 10 – 15 pounds to lose but I really want to fit into the next smallest dress size.

      Recently I discovered Rob Poulos’s book The Fat Burning Furnace and it really made heaps of sense to me. The bonus is that to burn fat fastyou only need to do moderate weight focused exercise 3 times a week to turn on your fat burning metabolism.

      I am fundamentally lazy and so this really appeals to me!

    I’ve also started last wek to lose weight. In a week I managed to go from 131 kgs to 127, but I know it is mostly water and other non-fat stuff, but at least there is 1 kg of fat burned down.

    This will motivate me but it is very hard to keep up considering that 2 years passes since I’m being “inactive”.

  7. Wow, much of this post sounds exactly where I am now, only I haven’t taken the step of getting back in the gym yet. I have let day to day things and stresses take over, and all the while knowing that the best way to reduce the stresses is to make time for me (hit the gym!) and take better care of myself (eat right!). So simple, yet so hard to stick to.

  11. I happen to know that the single biggest reason people fail is lack of clarity.

    I know it’s been said before but that is because it’s true. If you don’t know how much weight you need to lose to fit your description of ‘slim’ or ‘healthy’, and you don’t have powerful reasons driving you toward that goal, then when the gym gets painful or when that banoffee pie is staring at you in the fridge.. you WILL let yourself down.

    I always teach my readers who are looking to learn how to burn bodyfat that they need a powerful set of reasons. No I didn’t invent this, obviously, but it works.

    So if anybody has tried and failed plenty of times.. heres a 3 step plan you need to do BEFORE you step into the gym.

    1. Get clear on why you need to lose weight. Are you looking to achieve some nn descript concept of ‘slim’. What IS slim to you? 150lbs? 120lbs? Specifics please.

    2. Write the good things you wil enjoy from having that slim xxx lb body. Attention from the opposite sex? More energy? Diabetes reversal? Write everything in detail.

    b. Write the bad stuff you are currently experiencing because of your weight. Writing stuff down is good because it clears your mind since you no longer have the pressure of holding it up there in your head.

    3. Get a fat burning guide or a weight loss guide. Make sure it’s legitimate.

    b. Follow it and MAKE it work for you. Do NOT quit. It’ll be hard to given your set of powerful reasons.

  23. Definitely, I totally agree the writes up here; too much information that bring us educational knowledge regarding this matter. Weight loss is one of those common problems nowadays because fatty people are acquiring to lose their weights to become sexy and have a healthy body. But losing weight is not easy as we think because proper diet and sacrificing not to eat much is needed. That’s why having exercised daily is one of the best way to do for making our body stronger and healthier enough for us in order to aware any illnesses also we must take also vitamins which is good for our body.       Well, if I would have stuck out Bodytrim I would have been the winner hands down. But I didn’t. So my friend just quietly kept up her Weight Watchers and is now nearly at her goal weight. 🙁 Both programs work well, you just need to work out which one you feel more comfortable with.

The proper care of our self is like running a business we must take good care of our self always because no one will be suffering instead our self if we had illnesses and no one can handle the company which we are sacrificing to raise it. And those who lose in the beginning or in the middle are victims of gaining more weight than what they have before. So it depends upon a person and only committed people gets success.   30. Hi, Petra. Longest time ;-). I recently decided to jump back on the diet train after I ripped three trousers in the crotch area in one week. lol.

    I was just so lucky that they either happened in my room or at night in the presence of my close pals.

    Hasn’t been easy but the recent discovery that I’ve shed 1kg already is keeping me going ;-). I even managed to beat eating for depression yesterday 😉

I’ve got 8 weeks till my holiday – i thought it would motivate me but i’m struggling. I can’t quite find the time to do anything but eat junk, too many nights out, too much booze! Ho hum…

  38. I kinda feel you on that. I mean, we need to be on a proper psychological state if we want to lose our excess baggages. Dealing with problems can sometimes give us lack of enthusiasm on doing things like exercising. I had the same state before but now I am all set to achieve my fitness goal.

  39. Well i am a huge failure when it comes to weight loss. I used to work out on a regular basis last year and had lost about 20 lbs in a month which was great success for me. But then i stopped and when i work out now i have only lost 2 lbs in 2 weeks. Since then i have never had much difference in my weight. What should i do? I am not sure if the problem is with my diet.

  45. I stumble upon the same situations in the past (and I am still working it out really hard now) and I’ve got to tell you, it was never an easy task. What I learned though is not to push yourself too hard. Just start with the basics again and slowly progress to higher level. And you’ll be back in shape in no time again.

  47. Emotions are hard to master, I’m afraid, especially if we’re doing something that’s really going to test us. I remember when my mom had to cut back on some of her favorite food and monitor her weight because she had diabetes. It was hard, but she eventually got to be better at it with support from family and friends but also because she wanted to get better. Now diabetes maintenance is at a minimum, and she’s healthier than ever.

    Tip: Work out for at least 30 minutes first thing in the morning and eat a decent breakfast about 15 to 20 minutes after your exercises and you will burn fat.

I find that when I fall off, it’s because I feel overly busy and crazy in my life as well. When I take even just 15 minutes a day to meditate, it helps calm and center me which in turn helps me to realize what my true priorities are. I wish you all the success with your weight loss goals!

    Eat green leafy vegetables can help reduce weight, however we should try to have some variation in our diet plan, like after one month try to eat differently & then compare the diet plan results to see what effects the weight loss best.

  72. I’ve had my ups and downs. But I’m pretty consistent with my diet now, and I get to the gym 3 days a week.

    I lost a lot of weight after cutting bread completely out of my diet as well.

      Support is very very important. If you have a partner that supports and encourages you, for example, you will be more successful than if your partner puts you down all the time and keeps telling you how fat you are (speaking from experience here 🙁 )

As a person trying to lose weight and get healthy its really inspiring and motivates me to carry on when things get tough and I feel like giving up (I’ve currently lost about 3.5st of the 8st that I needed to lose at the start, so I still have a long way to go before I’m there). Seeing other people that have achieved their goals is fantastic and inspiring – and all the people featured look fantastic!

Different goals you want set for themselves – to do more or do less the volume of the body or parts of it, make muscles strong, gain flexibility, posture correct, enhance immunity, get rid of insomnia, strengthen the heart and nerves – you will certainly succeed with the help of Ayurveda. Specifically, reduction in weight with Ayurveda I did.

  84. I’m all fine and disciplined until my PMS kicks in. It usually lasts for 7 days and it mostly ruins all my efforts until then. As far as my eating habits are concerned. As for exercise, I actually workout more on those days and I hope it levels out.

  91. I need to add that “SALT” is one of the most important aspects of a healthy body. Taking in consideration that most of the genetically modify fruits and vegetables lack the vital minerals that once used to have.

    Lacking any vital minerals in your body can have a negative impact in the future. For example imbalances in your PH levels causing arthritis, or it might cause low of sexual performance and desire, insomnia, weak bones, heart problems, you’ll be weak and tire all the time.

    Also water is another important part of your diet believe me. Do you think that the pop, juice, iced tea, tea, coffee or anything like that is hydrating your body???? NO, incorrect! You should not count that towards your daily water intake which should be about 5% of your total body weigh obviously if you are not overweigh.

    Everything else was already said in the original article I just needed to add that as many people are not aware of how crucial water is to our lives and well being.

  93. I am also trying to lose weight; I am finding it difficult getting the right balance between diet and exercise.
    I am currently attempting to lose weight by counting calories but it can be difficult trying to keep up with the right amount of exercise and avoiding unhealthy snacks!
    At present I have lost 4 stone, but it has been a very long process, my aim for 2012 is to take it far more seriously and loose at least another 3 stone this year!

    Well, for me it’s just self-discipline. Just control yourself, regular exercise, and awareness. Having a fitness instructor would be good too and very fun. 😛

    One thing to remember, just enjoy and have fun. You mostly get what you want when you are on the mood.

    very nice article about the hot topic. i think to decrease the health related problem. We should be eager to decrease body weight. Obesity is a root cause of all major diseases. i think we can control them b having suitable diet and also by taking proper proteins etc..

    Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
    But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
    Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures.
