Healthy Diet Weight Loss – The Benefits Of Drinking Water

Sorry it’s been so long, I think I should not have picked the pre-Christmas period for starting a weight loss program!!!

Anyway, the first step you should always do/change when trying to achieve a healthy diet weight loss is to drink more water. About 2 liters a day (or 8 glasses) is what is always recommended to hydrate your body enough, and to flush it of toxins.

Are you drinking enough water? I certainly am not! I always think I should, but then I forget during the day, and at the end of the day I usually realize it and by then it’s too late.

So let’s have a look why drinking water is so important during a healthy diet weight loss (and any other time, for that matter!), and what benefits it has for our bodies:

  1. Over 70% of our body is water. For our bodies to function properly they need the presence of water, and if your body is well hydrated, it can do these functions much more quickly and efficient. If you drink the amount of water your body needs to work at its peak efficiency, you will feel more energetic and boost your metabolic rate, too, which in effect will help you lose weight.

    Studies have shown that the sensations of hunger and thirst are triggered together. If your body is slightly dehydrated, the thirst your body is feeling might be mistaken for hunger, and you might start to eat instead of giving your body what it is craving – water! Most food contains water, and if you don’t drink enough, you might subconsciously be driven to eat more food to give your body the necessary water supply. This, of course, can lead to overeating and weight gain. Drinking more water in the first place can help prevent that and help you on your way to a healthy weight loss!

  3. Drinking water regularly – especially before meals – also helps to keep you feeling fuller, so you don’t eat quite as much as you would without drinking.
  4. Water can help you battle the aging! Aging is, in a way, the process of you drying up from the inside out. If you drink your water regularly, you have a better chance to look younger and feel better for longer!

So, the first thing we all should change in our diet is to get that healthy water into our bodies! Cheers!

  1. I myself drink water all the time. Water is very good for you and your diet and exercise programs. Water is the best thing you can drink when you are out in the heat. You need to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

  2. I love water I drink water all the time. My family is always saying how do you drink water it has no taste and I just tell them it is refreshing when you are exercising, walking or working out in the heat.

  3. I try as much as possible to drink lots of water but then I’m discouraged by the frequent visits to the bathroom every 5-10 minutes afterwards. Something that I’ve come to know as a great appetite calmer, if that phrase exists, is black tea (Tetley’s) and low GI milk. That combination never fails to keep me feeling full, I wonder why.

Really water should be the only liquid you drink during the day your body needs water and without a good source of daily water you will more than likely start to get headaches or worse migraines, I used to suffer from migraines very badly as I only used to drink tea or coffee since haing 2 litres of water a day i do NOT get them any more, I do tend to use the toilet a lot more thou !

  6. Great! I like that bit about the water. I know a very stubborn person whom I find difficult to persuade that drinking water is good for your health 🙂 I am drinking a mild still mineral water. The minerals are good for cleansing.

  8. I STRONGLY recommend working out with weights as well as doing regular cardio. As a guy who spends far too much time in front of a computer, I can assure you it helps a lot.

      The body consists mostly of water. I am not sure about the 80%, I think its more like 70%, but that’s why water is so important for the body. Without it, or with not enough, it can’t work efficiently. Always have a drink of water first when you feel hungry – quite often the body is rather crying for water than for food.

Hey Petra, I’ve actually tried drinking more water and one of the first things I noticed was that I felt more full…Im not sure if theres any science to back up my feelings but when i was drinking 8 glasses per day I definitely didnt eat as much…whats more, I didnt drink coke and other sugar filled dangers!

  21. Drinking more water is the main point in every fitness plan. If you are having the right quantity of water in your fitness plans then i am sure you ‘ll get your desired results very soon.   23. You should be aware that drinking a lot of water for long time is NOT healthy. Your body know best when you should drink :).
    And yes driking water while you’re on diet really helps you.

  24. Who ever thought that water could be so beneficial? My only problem with drinking water is that I just can’t have it in the morning (ugh!). Not sure why. So I usually start my day with tea (which is better than coffee) and try to stay off the sugar and then I work my way to 2 liters a day. I don’t always drink the amount I’m supposed to but over all I think some water is better than no water.

  29. Wow this article points out a fact that I never knew before, it point #2. So I guess many people are tricked by hunger. They take more food to fulfil their hunger, while actually it should be water. I guess we know how important drinking water is, but we always forget that during the day or some people just prefer drinking pop and other flavoured water. Besides water is a preventive cure for any disease.

  31. Great! Just in time that I am on a diet after the holidays. But I know that taking water alone will not really help you loose weight the fastest way. You also need to watch on your diet and have regular exercise.

  35. I totally agree with you that drinking water frequently will help circulating blood in your body, make your body full of energy and vitamins inside out. You don’t need any plastic surgeries to make your skin smooth and non-wrinkles. Anyway, water only help to lengthen your youth, you’ll get old anyway, so anti wrinkle cream is still useful if you want to double the affects of water.

  36. Water is good, but you should be careful what kind of water you drink. Tab water, definitely not a good idea, too much chemistry substances. Mineral water, its alright, but it costs.     As you relate in point #3…studies that I have seen show that drinking 16 ounces of water before a meal cause you to consume 15% fewer calories at that meal.

    Just doing this can result in a weight loss of 30-40 pounds over the course of a year.

  47. Water is life. Although were I live it’s not easy to get good tasting water I always try to drink as much as possible to stay healthy (I bought a filter).

  51. I drink as much water as I can, but I don’t feel like it helps curb my appetite most of the time- then again I really love food! 🙂 But I can tell almost right away when I’m not getting enough water, my body tells me it’s dehydrated, I hardly drink anything except water now.

      If you get dehydrated, you can get headaches. And drinking anything else but water will just quench your thirst for the first few minutes, and then it will come back worse than before. I noticed that especially with soft drinks!
