Don’t Quit!

June 6, 2012 | By | 21 Replies More

It’s something we all fall victim to, often over and over again (I certainly am!). Its the fact that you can go really, really well on your lifestyle and healthy eating habit change, and then comes the one day (or night, in my case!) where you cave in to temptation and just completely bust it. Poooof – you’ve failed again (or so you think)!

And more often than not, that’s the time when you say to yourself – I’ve stuffed it now, I have failed again, it’s no use, I can’t do this. I might as well go all the way and gorge now! Another failure. Time and time again.

Well, you know what, whatever you do, don’t quit!! Quitting is the worst thing you can do. It’s like if you have fallen down, the most important thing is to get up again and get going! Keep at it! It’s a matter of fact that you have only failed when you stop trying.

I would like you to have a read through this poem. I found it online on the Health Forum, and it’s fantastic. I believe it puts us all back on the spot and tells us exactly what we should be doing. So let’s!!!!

When you’ve eaten too much and you can’t write it down,
when you feel like the biggest failure in town.
When you want to give up just because you gave in,
and forget all about being healthy and thin.
So WHAT! You went over your points a bit.
It’s your next move that counts…So Don’t you quit!
It’s a moment of truth, it’s an attitude change.
It’s learning the skills to get back in your range.
It’s telling yourself, “You’ve done great up till now.
You can take on this challenge and beat it somehow.”
I’ts part of your journey toward reaching your goal.
You’re still going to make it, just stay in control.
To stumble and fall is not a disgrace,
if you summon the will to get back in the race.
But, often the struggler’s, when losing their grip,
Just throw in the towel and continue to slip.
And learn too late when the damage is done,
that the race wasn’t over…they still could have won.
Lifestyle change can be awkward and slow,
but facing each challenge will help you grow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
the silver tint in a cloud of doubt.
When you’re pushing to the bring, just refuse to submit.
If you bite it, you write it…But don’t you quit!

Please let me know what you think. I admit, I have been very, very negligent with approving my comments here on my blog (currently there are 390 awaiting approval, dating back more than 1/2 year 🙁 shame on me) but trust me, I am into it and will get there eventually – I am not a quitter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉

Also, on a demure note, I have crept back up to 82 kgs over the past few months and have started on BodyTrim again – which is very very similar to The Diet Solution Program and Pure Fat Burning Fuel from Isabel De Los Rios. And once again, in the first week I am already down 2 kg (and that’s “only”, because I still have a glass of wine in the evenings, plus usually a piece of chocolate for all my hard work during the day).

Anyway, enough rambling, let me know your thoughts about the poem, and I will get around to approve your comments ASAP, promise!

  1. Great post. I agree. It’s really hard to start losing weight but if you set your goals right, you will get there.

  2. It’s a bit of a testament to your dedication – it always gets hard and everyone slacks off occassionally but you need to dig deep and find the motivation to move forward. I tink having a good base of friends and family around you supporting you is important – if they don’t then use the drive to prove them wrong instead! Nothing in life worth having is easy, but with the right support anyone can get there!

  3. LOVE the poem! Very motivating! 🙂

On a side note, isn’t it more important to live a certain lifestyle instead of a specific diet? Unless you see a particular diet as a lifestyle, and not a temporary solution…

    • Petra Weiss says:

Mike, I think diet and lifestyle in regards to eating habits are one and the same. And in diet I mean the things you eat and when and how, not “things you are not allowed to eat and certain regimen you have to follow”. A certain lifestyle will ultimately contain a certain diet. If you live the lifestyle of a fast food junkie, then your diet will contain lots of junk food. If you live the lifestyle of a vegetarian, then you won’t eat any meat and so on. Makes sense, I hope?

My goal this year is to lose weight but it seems like i am having a hard time doing it, i need to be motivated i need some inspiration and that is what i am lacking off.

  5. Yes, the picture describes my situation as it is… It’s really hard to say no to all this tasty but unhealthy stuff sometimes especially when all around you eat it! But no, healthy diet can also be tasty!

I believe that if you were really into sweets you just cannot give it up in a day. Its alright to fail in your dieting program. Everyone has some limitations and only a certain amount of control. Its fine if you ate one or two chocolate if you felt like eating it. Give yourself a treat for controlling your urges and no matter what happens don’t give up.

  7. My biggest temptation is beer. I can skip the donuts and the cake. But its hard for me to look away from a cold draft of beer. I’ve lost 10 lbs in the past 2 months. I’m hoping to stay on track. Must turn away from the beer. 🙂

  8. Quitting something is never a great option because you are not really trying to solve the problem all you are doing is just running away from it. Quitting will never help you to become a better person. It is an easy way out for your problem but its effect in the long run is always devastating because all you are doing is making it grow.

  9. It is very easy to make excuses and to quit things but to keep on trying even after failing is a mark of a great person. The thing you want to quit can be anything, the simplest of thing or habit, but you really have to try hard to carry even after failing. You have to make a note of what happened and where you went wrong and work on that weakness.

  10. The poem is indeed motivating. Staying fit is very necessary nowadays to keep yourself away from bad health and such other ill effects. But dieting and restricting yourself all the time from eating something sinful is not the solution. Eat right, eat healthy, but workout to keep that bulge in your control.

  11. There are many things that even though you know is harmful for you, you are not able to let go of. I am terribly addicted to chocolates. I was trying to quit it but it was not easy. But I finally managed to control my habit. I had a few setbacks on my way but I never gave up. I was determined to curb the habit and I have finally done that. Believe me if I can do it anybody can.

  12. I definitely agree that one will only fail if one has quit trying. To achieve your goal, you have to keep trying. We sometimes lose our discipline and motivation but that’s all right. As long as you are dedicated enough to achieve it.

  13. Great post. I love the sentence: you have only failed when you stop trying. it is so true. It’s not only when losing weight. It’s in everything in life

  14. I find it helpful to keep a journal that I write in only immediately after a binge eating session. I try to read a couple of the entries in the journal every time I feel like cheating on my diet. Sometimes it helps to get some perspective on how you feel immediately after cheating to remind yourself to stay strong. Thanks for the inspiration!

  15. great poem! it’s now on my wall.

  16. I agree that goals are necessary however it is important that when beginning a workout that you set appropriate goals. Meaning attainable but that will still push you out of your comfort zone.

  17. Very motivational poem and when you are trying to lose weight and get fit over 50, you need all the motivation you can get. I keep telling myself the older I get the fewer chances I am going to have so if I am goung to doit I better do it now.
