Hi Zsazsa, I completely get where you are coming from, I do exactly the same! I also have 2 kids and work, eat healthy during the day and then blow it at night. What I have realized though is that if I go straight to bed after my kids are in bed (around 8:30 to 9 pm), I can't eat any more because I go to sleep. And also, I wake up a lot more rested and balanced. I know its kind of very hard, when the kids are in bed I want to have MY TIME, which I need so badly, but maybe just not having it for a few weeks will actually turn around the vicious cycle and get some weight loss happening. So we can REALLY have our time - the time of our life being thinner! ;-)

Tonite after dinner I ate a jello cheesecake cup, mini Oreos, beef jerky, an ice cream cup, two string cheese sticks and triscuits. At night i am like the hungry caterpillar except instead of turning into a beautiful butterfly i am turning into a very overweight person. I was waiting for my kids to go to bed so I could start eating. I go back and forth between sweet and salty snacks. I have tried fruit and veggies but I don't want something cold and wet - I want sweet and indulgent or crunchy and filling and comforting. I almost think I would be better off if I drank at night. I know it is habit and it is emotional but I cannot seem to find anything that will stop the very strong cravings. I eat very healthy all day and completely blow it every night. I work full time and have two small kids - I know part of it is rewarding myself for getting through my hectic and stressful day but how do I stop???

Hi, I do that too. Just ate so much I made myself sick. WTH???!!! I don't even want to eat like this, but I swear. Right this very minute after already having eaten 4 soft pretzels, and a chicken sandwich I am struggling with going downstairs and getting something else. And talk about pounds piling on...I went from a size 6 to a size 12 in one year. I hate the way I look. Why can't I stop this pattern???

Often with this eating disorder, family and friends just don't understand. Unless you suffer from it...and after trip after trip down the stairs to the kitchen for "just one more thing" trust me, it is suffering....usually people just think, Hey, don't eat. It isn't that simple and often asking people you live with for help just makes things worse.

The fruit and veg thing sounds great. Good luck to you who read this, and bless you who wrote it. Night binge eating is terrible. Over eating is harder to overcome then any drug addiction. If you wanna stop taking drugs, a simplistic solution is to remove yourself from the drug environment. With over eating it's worse. Hell...even JC Penny sells candy.

Many are faced with the problem of associating relaxing time such as watching tv and binge eating. Some tips that may help could be to try and keep the room lit as it will not give you the soothing feeling of turning the lights down to relax and watch TV. Also keep all snacks out of the TV room as out of mind out of sight.

What works for me is this that when an urge of eating arises like this, I postpone it. I don't say to myself "Don't have it", but "have it later". This helps me a lot. One may also try "Is t his beneficial for health?", "what use of having it! No use". Such thoughts as if nullify the temptation of eating something in particular. The other tips mentioned here are good as well, especially of chewing slowly and keeping a mirror. I never tried the mirror before but am curious to do that now.
